Recent movies part 2

Following on from my previous movie post, I've been to see a whole lot more since then.

I hope you enjoy my little one sentence reviews :)

War Horse
War Horse

Pretty much what you'd expect from Spielberg - a veritable tearjerker with all the bells and whistles, and a storyline which keeps your eyes glued to the screen. I couldn't help but shed a tear, even if it was a bit cheesy.

Watch it if you liked: Saving Private Ryan

The Muppets
The Muppets

Predictable goodie vs baddie formula with a love story thrown in the mix. All your old favourites including Kermit, Fozzy, Gonzo and (my favourite) Beaker. Catchy songs which will have you humming all the way home. Catch a late screening though to avoid riotous children.

Watch it if you liked: Any previous Muppet movie!

The Descendants
The Descendants

Not Clooney's best performance, but a beautifully dark comedy all the same about a family coming together in the most difficult of circumstances.

Watch it if you liked: About Schmidt

Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene
Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene

Haunting account of a girl who has left a cult after living there for two years. The film features flashbacks of her experiences, and I couldn't help expecting them to be more... extreme. Still a great movie addressing the subtleties of psychological manipulation and their effects.

Watch it if you liked: Winter's Bone

J Edgar
J Edgar

A fairly interesting account of J Edgar's life and relationships. However, it was also long and slightly tedious, plus the make-up used to age DiCaprio and Hammer freaked me out somewhat.

What it if you liked: The Aviator

Carnage
Carnage

I wanted to love this movie, and by all accounts there were four incredible performances. However, given that it was one long 90-minutes scene, I found it a bit repeitive and tedious. Not nearly as funny as I'd hoped either. A real shame.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

A heart-wrenching tale of a (slightly autistic in my opinion) boy who is coming to terms with his father's death in 9/11. A sweet portrayal of familal love which made me shed a tear.

Watch it if you liked: The Blind Side

A Dangerous Method
A Dangerous Method

I am NOT Keira Knightley's greatest fan, but she put forward a compelling performance in this story of Jung and Freud's different approaches to psychotherapy. Morality is by no means clear-cut and my loyalties flitted between the characters. It was hugely enjoyable though.

watch it if you liked: An Education
